About Us

We are housed in a modern, purpose-built school building in the heart of the vibrant capital city. The building houses some of the finest resources for the arts and sports in the city of Colombo. The British School strives to enrich the lives of young people in its care by providing a holistic educational experience. The school foster academic achievement as well as allowing students to grow personally so to become global citizens for the 21st century. The School uses the English National Curriculum as the basis of its curriculum. In the secondary school, we offer International GCSE examinations (IGCSE) at the end of Year 11 (when pupils are 16 years). In our provision in the Sixth Form we are unique in Sri Lanka, offering both A Level Examination courses as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. The teaching body at The British School comprises a stimulating mix of local and expatriate practitioners who bring a range of experience to the classroom. The School continues to build on its heritage of success and we are proud that many of our alumni have progressed to higher education at the world’s leading universities.
